Mandated Reporting
What is a mandated reporter?
A
mandated reporter is a person who, because of his or her profession, is
legally required to report any concerns of child abuse or neglect to
the authorities. If a mandated reporter fails to make a report it could
result in legal actions taken against that person. All reports are made
to ChildLine either by phone or online.
Who is a mandated reporter?
ALL staff members at Premier Arts and Science Charter School are mandated reporters!
Why are all staff members mandated to make a report?
These
laws are in place to prevent children from being abused and to end any
possible abuse or neglect at the earliest possible stage.
What happens next?
After
a report has been made to ChildLine, the reporter is no longer involved
in the investigation unless to answer further questions. The
information is then sent to Child & Family Services (CYS) who will
decide if the report warrants an investigation. If they decide it does,
then a social worker from CYS will investigate by having conversations
with those involved. The social worker(s) will determine if further
actions need to be taken to ensure the safety of the child(ren).
**You
do not have to be a mandated reporter to report suspected child abuse
or neglect. If you have concerns for child safety and believe a report
should be made you can call 1 (800) 932-0313.
